  • For 1st time, NCAA Tournament is cancelled due to COVID-19 (coronoavirus) concerns on March 12th
  • Moved 3-point line to international distance (22' 1¾" vs. 20'-9")
  • Clock to reset to 20 seconds after FG attempt hits rim and offensive team rebounds the ball in the front court

  • Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) (1981-2018) replaced by NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) to rank and help select teams

  • Selection committee to use Team Sheets that break games into Quadrants to help select teams

  • Selection committee to release NCAA Tournament Preview of top 16 seeds
  • Ivy League holds first conference tournament (last conference to do so)

  • New shot clock is 30 seconds (was 35), arc underneath basket now 4 feet (was 3), and fewer timeouts
  • Reverted back to calling Round of 64 the First Round (was Second Round), etc.

  • New American Athletic Conference (split from Big East) means only 36 at-large bids
  • Great West Conference (ineligible until 2017) folded (2009-2013)

  • Expanded tournament to 68 teams
  • 1st Round is now "First Four" with 2nd and 3rd Rounds now the traditional first weekend games (CSTV and ESPN will televise no games)
  • Turner Sports (TNT, TBS, TruTV) and CBS will televise all 67 games live
