CERRITOS, CA (smt)-- Despite finishing in 44th place this year, Lisa F held onto to the top position for the second straight year. Scott T's first place finish put him just 0.031 of first (from 0.180 down). With the requirement moving up one to a minimum of four entries, just 21 people qualified (26 in 2001). Good finishes also bumped up Andy F to 5th place (12th in 2001) and Sam N to 16th (from 23rd). Poor finishes dropped Bob G from 11th to 14th and Fernando B from 8th to 9th. Jason S, who didn't participate this year, moved up to 8th from 13th.

There have only been four people to hold the #1 spot in the eight years (Fernando '95-'96, Jason '97, James L '98-'00, Lisa '01-'02). Rankings are based on weighted power point average (WT-AV) which is sensitive to final placement AND the number of people in pool that year. Each year a person can up up to one point (for 1st). Lisa's WT-AV dropped from an insanely high 0.939 to 0.820. Scott's WT-AV improved from 0.759 to 0.789. James (2nd in 2001 with 0.907) dropped out without a fourth entry. Rob C (7th in '01), Jon K (18th in '01), Bobby J (24th in '01), and Donald G (26th-last in '01) also dropped out. Fifteen people have 3 entries and could qualify next year if they participate as the requirement won't be raised to five entries until 2005.

Dennis K reclaims last place (2nd to last in '01) despite not playing this year. He's also been ranked last in '95, '99, and '00. Thirty-three entries (32 people) have been ranked overall.

The Class of 1999 has performed very well. Three of the top four people started in 1999.
