FOURTH HWCI OFFICIAL BETTING POOL- NCAA TOURNAMENT `98
=========================
Another year, another pool. It's that time of year again, where
every loss will be blamed on El Nino, spring break approaches (or
doesn't exist, as in my case, thanks to work), and a little club
called "Hot Wings" rises from the ashes to run the
annual NCAA tournament pool. This Thursday will mark the opening
of the Fourth Annual HWCI NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Pool.
Despite pressure for the third straight year to raise the entry
fee from $10 to $20, common sense wins out once again and the
little guys like me can play amongst the giants. You may enter
multiple times (with multiple $10 bills) if you wish. Dave's
email earlier this week had everything you need to know to enter
this year's pool. Our goal is to break the 22 entries last year.
NOTES: Jason Selander is the only person to win money twice (1st
in 1996 ($110), 3rd in 1997 ($35)- his only entries). Alvin Kim
is out $40, due to entering twice in 1997. Jason (1996) boasts
the most wins in one year (48 of 63 correctly pegged) while
Fernando Bustamante (1995) has had the most points (148 of 196
possible). of the 53 previous entries, no one has picked all four
of the Final Four entrants correctly, and only 6 have picked 3 of
the 4. the best
start is 15-1 (30 pts) after one day of play by Jason and Duke
Fan in 1997. the pride factor to get this year is 81 points, as
the all-time low of 80 points was achieved twice by Douglas Han
(1996) and Mike Bernaldo (1997).
