Welcome to the third-ever HWCI World Cup Pool based on our successful HWCI NCAA pools. The 2006 World Cup will take place in Germany from June 9 through July 9. You will choose the winners of the 48 round-robin games, the 16 teams who will advance to the Round of 16 and the winners of each match after that- 80 choices in all and all before the first game is played!
The pool is open to anyone with ten bucks though FIFA referees and Italian officials (who are sometimes the same person) should think twice before entering. Feel free to pass the pool info to your friends and family and/or link to this page. If you have any questions, email worldcup(at)hwci.com.
Here is a quick look at the pool:
WHAT: 3rd HWCI World Cup Soccer Betting Pool
FEE: $10.00 per entry
WHO: Anyone with ten bucks! Invite friends! No more than three entries per person
REFERRAL: For those who participated in 2002, refer five people to enter and get a free entry with one paid
SOC STAT: Brazil is the defending World Cup champion
PRIZES:
All money from fees will go to prizes (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place)
If a sufficient number of entries are received, then a 4th place may be added
Winners will be determined by points, not correct number of games (see Points section)
If there's a tie, the entry that comes closes (higher or lower) to the total combined goals in the 3rd Place and Final matches will win the tiebreaker. If there is still a tie, the combined monies won will be split between the tied entries.
POINTS:
48 Round Robin matches = 1 point each (ties and losses are 0 pts)
16 Round of 16 picks = 3 points each
8 Quarterfinal picks = 5 points each
4 Semifinal picks = 7 points each
2 Final picks = 9 points each
1 World Cup champ pick = 14 points
Total possible pts = 196 (same as our NCAA pool)
