KOREA WINS ON PKS WHILE TURKEY GETS GOLDEN GOAL
BerniSam out of points but can still finish first

CERRITOS, CA (smt) - 1B-Spain (3-0-2) outplayed co-host 1D-South Korea (3-0-2) but was held to a scoreless draw through overtime. In the penalty kick shootout, Korea, which had missed its only two penalty kicks in the previous four matches, scored on all five kicks to oust its fourth European team, 5-3 in PKs. Spain won in PKs in its Round of 16 match with Ireland but Joaquin hesitated on Spain's fourth shot and it was saved. Hong Myung-Bo put in the decisive fifth shot to make South Korea the first Asian team ever to make the semifinals. Spain had a chance in overtime (100') to win it but the shot bounced off the left post back into play. Korea will face Germany on Tuesday.

In the battle of the Cinderellas, 2C-Turkey (3-1-1) and 2A-Senegal (2-1-2) played to a scoreless tie in regulation. After some action in Turkey's end, Turkey's GK started the run of play that ended with Ilhan Mansiz's 94th minute first-time half-volley off a cross into the back of the net sending the Turks into their first semifinal match in only their second World Cup appearance. Both teams played tentatively as if not to make a mistake. There were only four shots on goal (2 for each team) and just 12 shots overall. In an interesting twist, Turkey will have a rematch with Brazil, who they lost 2-1 to on a couple of controversial calls in the first match of the round robin.

HOME TOWN CALLS: Italy had two goals taken away in their semifinal match with South Korea in addition to a bad 2nd yellow card given to Francesco Totti in overtime. Spain also had two goals taken away, one on an apparent offsides in the box off a free kick (49') and another in overtime (93'), when the linesman ruled the ball had gone over the endline right before a score (replays showed the ball did not go out of bounds).

DEFENSE: The quarterfinal matches only produced 1.25 goals per match after an average of 2.7 goals in the 48 round-robin matches and 2.1 goals/match for the eight Round of 16 matches. And that number may go down further as the four teams remaining, in their five matches, have given up only one (Germany), two (South Korea), three (Turkey), and four goals (Brazil)- a goals against average of 0.5 goals per match.

Spain's shocking loss knocked out ROCKY MTN SOCCER (who lead after the first round) and EEK out the money picture and prevented LUIS ENRIQUE'S ARMADA from finishing first or second. No one picked up points today so an additional eight people (13 overall) will go 0-for-the-Final-Four. Just ten people picked up one win in the brutal Quarterfinal Round.

BERNISAM UNITED FC missed all four semifinalists (and missed the last two quarterfinalists) meaning she'll be stuck at 83 points. But the good news is she's still in first place thanks to Spain's loss and only four people can pick up points from here on out. If all four pick up points, then BERNISAM will be out of the money picture (only if GER beats BRA in final). Meanwhile, PUNA sits tied for third place with 79 points but is in the money picture in all eight possible outcomes. The only way she'll lose money is if GER and TUR meet in the final and she loses the 4th place tiebreaker to LUIS ENRIQUE'S ARMADA who she's tied with for third. HOOTY MCBOOB (81 pts) is in second place and can't pick up any more points. DANNY BOY (6th, 77) and DIMPLES (7th, 76) will try to ride Brazil into money spots. Meanwhile, FLYING ELVI (71) sits tied for 10th but can win first with a German title celebration.

All in all, just three people are in the running for first place while seven can still win money. If Brazil doesn't win the title, no one will finish above 100 points, the first time this will ever happen (in 8 HWCI NCAA and 2 HWCI World Cup pools).

Here are the Final Four Possibilities...
