"Not-so-Deep thoughts" - by Fern (aka LE BIX) --------------------------------------------- Vol. 1, No. 11 26/June/1998 "Life's too short to hold a grudge, or a protest" COMFY CONFINES, CARE of COSTA MESA, California - I've calmed down now. How could I tell? Well, I was watching the U.S. v. Yugo game and lo and behold, I wasn't nervous about it. Nor was I angry, or upset, or had sweaty palms. It seemed that the trouble that had gone on in the previous days leading up to the game had prepared me for the game. U.S. down a goal in the first ten mintues? Seen it, no problem. U.S. not able to put a decent shot in the back of the net? Also seen it, no problem. Mike Burns back on the field, and a starter to boot? Been done before, but I still get an upset stomach. If it is not obvious to you now, the Team USA's performance in the France '98 World Cup was a big bust (thank god they are not Spain). Some people were oblivious to it (read: Sampson), but most were unhappy. Especially the players, who waited much too late to say anything. The truth finally comes out but it is much too late. You can't blame them for keeping their mouths shut, though. John Harkes knew something wasn't right and he tried to fix the problem, but the coach fixed him instead. See what will happen if you disobey? 1st half impressions, England v. Colombia: Haven't seen much of the game but I've managed to sneak a peek now and then. England looked very strong against Colombia, or does Colombia just suck now? Michael Owen looks to be a player for quite some time, and he's only 18. Too bad for Japan, I thought they had a chance against Jamaica. But man, are they short. -fb
