Saturday, June 27, 1998 http://www.HWCI.com/wc98 Issue # 23.2.1 "Chile goes winless..." 1998 HWCI WORLD CUP TOURNAMENT POOL =================================== BRAZIL LAZILY BREEZES BY CHILE AS NORWAY LOSES TO ITALY First day of Round of 16 see few changes LA MIRADA, CA (smt)- Italy (3-0-1) handed Norway (1-1-2) its first loss in 20 matches to advance to the quarterfinals. Brazil (3-1) bounced back from its first defeat in a World Cup match since 1990 to blow by Chile (0-1-3), 4-1. Chile has still not won a World Cup match away from Chile in 48 years. Christian Vieri scored his fifth goal fo the tourney to lead Italy. Ronaldo missed the hat trick but he and Cesar Sampaio each scored twice to lead Brazil's offense. They both have 3 goals in the tourney. Marcelo Salas scored his fourth goal of the World Cup for Chile. Tomorrow will feature France and Paraguay and Denmark and Nigeria. I will be out most of the day tomorrow so the update will come in the evening sometime. I will try to get a good idea on who is already eliminated from the tournament either tonight or tomorrow, retroactive to the end of the first round. It ain't a foolproof method so if I say you're eliminated there is still hope I am wrong :-) KING OF THE WORLD picked Chile into the Round of 16 and was one of only three who didn't get both Italy and Brazil correct. MLSBOB still leads with 79 points with BIG BRI'S GOING DOWN down by just a point. One correction to be made: add 3 points to CANTONA's score (already corrected on the web) since there was an error in one of the Excel formulas. He was the only one affected. Tomorrow's update will be in the evening...
