		1998 HWCI WORLD CUP TOURNAMENT POOL '98

           ROMANIA, COLOMBIA GET LATE GOALS TO SNATCH VICTORIES
	     Predictions for getting correct Round of 16 teams 
	WILL be counted when 3rd match of 1st Round begins tomorrow

	CUBICLE IN EL SEGUNDO, CA (smt)-  Colombia (1-1) battled
to a scoreless match until the 83rd minute until Leider Preciado's 
goal gave Colombia a much needed win against Tunisia (0-2) in their 
Group G matchup.  Romania (2-0) scored in the 90th minute to lift
them to a 2-1 victory over England (1-1).  Romania clinches a spot
in the Round of 16 and leads Group G with 6 points followed by 
England and Colombia with 3 points.  Tunisia is now eliminated.  
Romania showed that they did indeed deserve the #1 seed in 
Group G.

	This ends the 2nd phase of the 1st Round as each team has 
now played two matches.  The next four days will feature two
groups each fighting it out for the the top two spots.  Six
teams have already qualified:  Brazil (Group A), France (1st C),
Nigeria (1st D), Romania (G), Argentina (H), and Croatia (H).  
XX teams have already been eliminated:  Saudi Arabia (C), Korea (E), 
USA (F), Tunisia (G), Japan (H), and Jamaica (H).  That leaves
24 teams battling for the final ten spots in the Round of 16.	

	I changed my mind on when I'm calculating the points for 
getting the correct Round of 16 teams.  Beginning tomorrow, for each 
group that completes its play I will include in the standings the 
points for the two teams that make it to the Round of 16.  That means 
that tomorrow will see a possible 16 points (4 points for the matches 
in Group A and B + 12 points (3 pts/each) for each team in Group A 
and B that qualify for the Round of 16) each day for the next four 
days.  The next two days will see more points possible than the 
previous 13 days combined.  This will change the standings 
dramatically (I hope) and stakes get higher.

	While everyone picked Colombia, only 5 of 21 picked Romania
over England, despite Romania being the top seed in Group G.  
However, MLSBOB (19 pts) still retained his one point lead but
six are close behind with 18 points.  The three tied for 19th place
are only five points back.
