Issue # 6.1.2 "Fit to be tied..."

		1998 HWCI WORLD CUP TOURNAMENT POOL '98

		LATE GOALS KEEP EVERYONE ALL TIED UP
	Pool standings remain status quo with two ties today

	EL SEGUNDO, CA (smt)- Robert Baggio of Italy (0-0-1) did not miss
his penalty kick opportunity like he did in the WC94 final giving
the Italians a lucky draw against Chile (0-0-1), 2-2.  The call in which
the penalty kick was awarded in the 85th minute was a controversial
handball call against Chile.  Nevertheless, Chile, led by Marcelo
Salas (2g), showed they could play with the big boys.  The other match in 
Group B saw Cameroon (0-0-1) take a late 1-0 lead before Austria (0-0-1)
scored in injury time just before the match ended to salvage a 1-1 tie.

	Italy's gift goal prevented YASOCCER from taking the lead in the
pool as he was the only one to pick Chile over Italy.  Austria's
comeback kept seven people from taking a point in the standings.
After the two ties today, the standings remain the same with everyone
but RUSSO earning one point.  The past couple of years have seen about
25% of the round-robin matches end in a tie and we've already had
three tied matches (75%).

	After Saturday's matches, I hope to have the final list of
eveyone's picks.  Remember, you have until Friday night to dispute
anything that is on the webpage.  I don't expect any more entries to
come in but I am expecting some checks :-)  I also hope to have 
standings, nickname/real name list, and a distribution list out by
Sunday as well.

	Denmark and host France are overwelming favorites to win their
matches tomorrow, but it hasn't looked good for the obvious choices so far.

Haven't seen a World Cup match yet...
