Purdue vs UConn Live!

12:20 am – 18 hours to tip off! Lots of excitement in the pool as only two have locked up prize money.

  • If 6-point favorite UCONN wins: Byron W (Flying Ace) will win the pool, Roy W (Krispy Seconds) will win 3rd, Jessica H (JessFish) 4th, either Billy H (Sunscar22) or Blakeley H (Bweakewey 3) 5th and 6th, Ken G (WinnerTown) will win 7th, and our admin David F (The Mighty Mobelfakta) will take 8th.
  • If Purdue upsets: Andy F (Joey JoJo Jr Shabadoo) will win the pool, Greg P (Eggman1) will win 2nd, Everett J (EveritoDaBurrito) or Byron W will take 3rd and 4th, Deven K (SlumDawg 1) will take 5th, Alex K (Juggernaut) will take 6th, Benjamin D 7th, and either Emily W (Emilybama2) or Charles D (Sisyphus13) will take 8th.
  • For the $40 Bonus the total points tiebreaker will be the Bonus (Bonus2).  65 entries can win the Bonus if UConn wins and 65 can win if Purdue wins, meaning a total of 85 entries are eligible to win (top 8 finishers are not eligible).

5:43 pm – Geez, on East Coast you have to wait until 9:20 for tip off. In the first round, Spokane games began at 10:30 am local. Brooklyn and Pitt last games announced a 9:40 pm local start, but usually started later.

6:30 pm – UConn 11-9 early 15:04 left. 20 pts projects to 160 pts.

6:38 pm – Edey has scored Purdue’s last 11 points but UConn still leads 18-16.

6:48 pm – Tied at 23. 6:50 left. Project about 142 pts.

7:15 – UConn leads 36-30. 66 halftime pts projects to 132 pts. Miss Mia 3 would win Bonus. Sunscar22 would win 5th place tiebreaker .

7:40 pm – UConn 43-34 15:54 left. . Edey no pts in last 10 min. 77 pts projects to 128 (Jouez Bien) as scoring pace slows down. Android app failing big time. Trying to use Max app.

7:44 – UConn has built a 13 point lead (47-34), their margin of victory on last 9 tourney games.

7:51 – UConn running away 51-38 11:31 left. Project 125 pts (Alfred Moniaga).

7:58 – UConn up 16! 56-40. 9:27 left. Project to 126 (SKG23).

8:31 – Back to Back. Late flurry pushes to 135 total pts. Zippy’sWife takes $40 bonus. Last UConn basket gives Bwakewey 3 5th place over Sunscar22.

SDSU vs UConn Live!

12:19 am PDT – 18 hours until the final. We already know who 7 of the top 8 prizes will be but we don’t know who will be champion (Samurai Jack if SDSU wins, Jah Lives-2 if UConn wins). We also don’t know who will win the $40 bonus as two can win if SDSU wins (leaving Big East with 11 wins) or ten can win if UConn wins (Big East with 12 wins). The last top prize spot will go to either EMAW (if SDSU wins) or Krispy Seconds (if UConn wins).

1:18 pm – If UConn wins, there is a tiebreaker for 4th to be decided. 149 total pts or less goes to JessaFish, 150 or more goes to Samurai Jack. The over/under is 133 points.

1:27 pm – If SDSU wins, if total pts is 129 or less, the $40 Bonus goes to Suznana, if 131 or more it goes to FV Locals. If 130, they will split $40. If UConn wins, 141 or less will go to Kds911-2 and Kds911-3 (same person so split doesn’t matter) and if 167 or more, it goes to Saratogastephen. In between, 7 others could win with possibilities of 3-way ties!

6:43 pm – SDSU led 10-6 but now it’s UConn 16-10. SDSU was 4/5 from field, now 4/13. 11 min left. Just 116 total pts projected but still early.

6:54 pm – SDSU has missed last 12 FGs. If not for 4 FTs, they’d be stuck on 10. UConn leads 22-14. 7:20 left. Projected 114 total pts.

7:01 pm – First SDSU FG in 11:08. Now 5/20 FGs. UConn leads 26-17.

7:03 pm – Missed open layup (why don’t players dunk?) followed by UConn 3. UConn 36-20.

Half – UConn led by as many as 16 and lead 36-24. Projected total pts only 120. Not pretty with 17 turnovers (9 by SDSU) but UConn still shooting 50% (SDSU 28.6% 8/28). Krispy Seconds looking good to take 8th if UConn holds on and Jah Lives-2 itching for pool title. Low scoring good news for Kds911-2 and Kds911-3 as total would have to go past 141 pts to lose Bonus (if UConn wins).

7:36 – What a long halftime.

7:44 – SDSU missed another layup (0/7) and trail by 13 with 16:33 left.

7:48 – 15:40 left, first SDSU layup made, down by 11 (43-32). Projected 122 pts.

7:54 – UConn is 10/11 on FTs and lead by 12. Will be hard for SDSU to come back. 13:59 left. Projected 126 pts.

8:01 – 11:56 left, UConn not letting SDSU get close, 49-36. UConn already shooting free throw from now on out and are 11/13. Projected 121 pts.

8:08 – 8:33 left and UConn leads 56-45. Projected creeping up to 128 pts.

8:10 – Down by 8 with 8:00 left. Projected to 130.

8:14 – 6:58 left, SDSU free throw narrows deficit to 7 (58-51). Projected 132.

8:18 – Can SDSU hit free throws? They hit 2 to cut it to 5 (60-55). 5:19 left.

8;20 – 3:52 left. UConn 63-55. Projected total 131. Does EMAW have hope now? Maybe Samurai Jack will add a 3rd ring to his finger? But UConn has been good at stopping runs in this Final Four, this time hitting a 3 to put them back up to 8.

8:24 – SDSU missed the front end of a 1-on-1. Just 13/18 on free throws (while UConn is 15/17).

8:26 – UConn up by 12, SDSU back to missing shots. 2:30 left. Projected 130 has lots of margin until 141 (Bonus) and 149 (4th place).

8:28 – UConn was on a 9-0 run as SDSU cuts it to 12 again. 1:55 left, 69-57, projected 133. Jah Lives-2 (title) and Krispy Seconds (8th) singing “hey hey hey, goodbye”.

8:33 – SDSU foul to stop clock at 1:07, now down by 16 75-59 (134).

Final – UConn wins 5th title (all since 1999) and mid-majors will have to wait another year (last UNLV in 1990). Final score 76-59 (135 points). Congrats to our 26th different pool champion, as Winsome T (Jah Lives-2) wins in first year. Robinson C (Samurai Jack) drops from 1st to 5th (a $605 drop), losing the 4th place tiebreaker to Jessica H (JessaFish). Roy W (Krispy Seconds) takes 8th, eliminating Spencer C (EMAW) who drops from 5th to 12th. The $40 Bonus goes to Tom J whose two entries tied for it (Kds911-2 and Kds911-3).

8:44 – As UConn has done, no drama winning all six games by 13 or more. No drama in pool tiebreakers as low scoring beginning never was close to being watched closely (needed 141+). Credit to SDSU to cutting it to five, but too many FG droughts to sustain any momentum, shooting just 32%.

9:35 pm Sunday – If UNC wins, there will be a 4-way tie for 4th (meaning all will win something).

12:30 am – SlumDawg3, who has never won in his previous 17 pools was tied for 105th after 40 games but now has a chance to nab 4th/5th/6th with a UNC win thanks to being the only entry to pick the Tar Heels as its champ. Tarheel Blue Balls will win by 11 points either way, the 2nd largest margin of victory (13 in ’98). Mia Culpa who led by 13 after the Sweet 16 (48 games) could finish behind by 24 if Kansas wins (but will still get 3rd place). 7 entries went 1-7 in the Elite 8 and that win was Kansas – just 3 picked them to win it all though.

3:26 pm – Usually, the final tips off at 6:10 pm PDT but this time it’s 6:20 pm, which is 9:20 on the east coast. Might mean ten more minutes I get to watch while my son finishes up his Boy Scout meeting in Cypress.

15:56 1st – Kansas jumped to 7-0 lead and it’s 9-3. This projects to 120 pts which would give Ormonde3 the Bonus.

10:45 – Shots not falling but 10 of 12 UNC pts off offensive rebounds. 15-12 Kansas – Projects to just 118 pts (Pick 1).

3:00 1st – UNC up by 12 (34-22). Projects 132 (Zippy). Tiebreakers for 4th-7th in play.

Half – Wow, UNC up 40-25. 65 projects to 130 which would give Pac-10 Rules! the Bonus and Larzby, SlumDawg3, MizzouTgr11 2, Team Samurai (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th).

20:00 2nd – Kansas can’t make a layup and is giving up rebounds and shooting just 30%.

15:40 – Kansas cuts it to 8 (45-37) with a free throw coming. Projected 135 would give Spoonceer the Bonus.

12:41 – Kansas down by one (46-45) but could be up by 3 but have missed 4 of past 5 free throws. Projects to 133 (SlumDawg1).

10:53 – 50 all.

7:48 -57 all. Projects 142 ([2] Brakewey 2, Carseroni tied).

1:41 – Another offensive rebound, UNC leads 69-68. 137 pts (Rjw615) if no else scores.

4.6 left: Another UNC offensive rebound, but passed out for a 3 and thrown out of bounds! Kansas 72-69. 141 pts (Tiniest Prancers).

4.3 left: Kansas runs out of bounds, UNC with a chance! Refs say only 0.3 went off the clock. For UNC to win, they need 4 pts, so 145 would be MizzouTgr11 2, SlumDawg3, Larzby, Team Samurai. But first, UNC needs to tie!

Final: Kansas 72, UNC 69! No dagger shot by Love this time, airball. Congrats to Larzby, Bob’s Bruins, Reign of Game, DaBoyz22 (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th). Congrats to Tiniest Prancers for winning the Bonus!

4th NCAA Title for Kansas, biggest comeback coming back from 16 points in the 1st half and 15 points in the 2nd half.

Had UNC fouled and Kansas made 1 free throw, Bwakewey 2 and Carseroni would have won the Bonus, splitting $40 and if Kansas made both free throws, My Sweet Mia would’ve won (making Stephen I the first person to win money and win the Bonus (two different entries, of course!).

Gonzaga vs Baylor Live!

1:00 pm – I’ll be taking my son to Boy Scouts tonight so we’ll see how the WordPress app works with updating. Pac Attack wins the pool if the Zags win, MizzouTgr11 2 wins if the Bears win (see Final Possibilities). Total points in Final tiebreaker will come into play (note over/under is now 159, down a point) if Gonzaga wins with Hawkeye 3 getting 5th if total pts <=147 and Gonzagafinallywinsit gets 5th if total pts >=148. If Baylor wins, with The Fabone Marathon wins 4th if <=144 and Mr Wizard wins 4th if >=145.

If Baylor wins, 7th is a 3-way tie meaning at least one will go home empty handed.

  • Carseroni wins 7th if <=120,
  • Carseroni and Mrs Meghan&Mr Meghan split $60 if 121,
  • Mrs Meghan&Mr Meghan wins 7th if pts are 122 to 140,
  • Mrs Meghan&Mr Meghan and Wuk#3 split $60 if 141, and
  • Wuk#3 wins 7th if >=142.

For the $40 Bonus, 51 are tied if Gonzaga wins and 49 are tied if Baylor wins. If total points is <=103, then Thai Spice wins and if total points is >=169 then Bigtenfan wins. The rest are in the middle (see Bonus possibilities).

3:50 pm – Ok, done with short trip to El Segundo. Now dealing with an hour of traffic. Oh, UNC has a coach now.

15:30 – 11-1 Baylor. In the car on way to Cypress Boys & Gils Club.

11:42 – 23-8 Baylor. Zags in trouble.

10:00 – 29-10. (Projected total – 156)

7:50 – 31-14. Baylor has twice as many shot attempts (24-12).

Half – Zags score last 5 to cut deficit to 10 (47-37). Projected total points 168 (Bonus projected for Mauihammy&Jay Bilas regardless who wins). Down by as many as 19, Zags still shot 54.5% (12/22). 8 turnovers and allowing 9 offensive rebounds allowed Baylor to shoot 16 more times (19/38). After missing first free throw, Zags made last 12. Baylor just 2 free throws (2/2).

15:51 – 56-45. Driving home now.

11:45 – 67-53. Zags had it down to 9 but Baylor’s 3s are killing them. Projected 168.

10:20: 20 pts! 73-53

8:27 – 2 missed free throws. Nothing going right. 75-59. Still 168 projected.

5:00 – Baylor 80-63, projected 163. Zags missed 4 of last 5 free throws including front end of a 1-and-1. Two more points will give Mr Wizard 4th. Wuk#3 already clinched 7th. 163 would give Dr Fun Bonus (missing out on 4th since Zags will lose).

3:15 – Baylor 82-65, projected 160 (would give Bonus to ZarinC).

End – Baylor ran out the clock and thus, 86-70 win produced 156 points. That gives ATI3.0 the Bonus! Perfect season ruined as Zags 35-game win streak comes to an end. Sheesh, Zags still shot 51% but just 5/17 on threes. Baylor 18 more shots with 16 offensive rebounds and forcing 14 turnovers. Baylor was 10/23 on threes and made 16/18 free throws.

Virginia v Texas Tech Live!

End of game: Virginia wins 85-77 and goes from worst (losing to #16 seed) to first! Virginia hits 12 straight free throws. Wow, 163 points, remember when we were projecting 48? So, final standings:

  • 3rd: FortressHoops3 (Eric F) (wins tiebreaker)

31.2: Virginia ball! They lead 77-73 (150). With free throws, 79-73 (152).

1:06: Geez, if it’s that close, keep the call on the court. Virginia 75-73 (148). Oy, they overturned the call, now Virginia ball.

2:45 left OT: Texas Tech leads 73-72. Projection 154.

End of regulation: 68-68, 136 points. Boy that last second took forever. Texas Tech shot was blocked. With projection of 153 points, if Texas Tech wins, Kds911 (>=138) would win 2nd and FortressHoops3 (>=148) would win 5th and TJ (150-153, ties 154) would win Bonus. If Virginia wins, Kds911 (>=138) would win 1st and FortressHoops3 (>=148) would win 3rd, Agnes Schweitzhoffer (>=135) would win 6th and Kai Pomeroy would win Bonus (>=151, Ties 150). This is the 8th OT final (first since ’08).

12.9: A 3 up, we’re tied! 68 all. That’s 136 points. At least one more point needs to be scored for 137. Or we go to overtime!

22.5: Texas Tech up 3 68-65.

35.1: Timeout! Texas Tech up 66-65! That’s 131 points. 4 more and a Virginia win gives Agnes Schweitzhoffer 6th and MistressNine would be in line for the Bonus (135-139).

1:31: Timeout! Virginia 65-64. 129 points now! 134 projected! One more point and Philly Eagles Again would get 6th (tied 129, 130-134) if Virginia holds on.

2:38: 61 all. Virginia is only the second team to score 60 or more points against Texas Tech in tournament. Projected 131.

3:28: And we’re tied at 59! 129 projected points. If Texas Tech wins, this is Netflower’s limit, if it goes to 130 then Fire Bill Self is poised to win Bonus (130-136, ties at 137).

4:47: 1st forced timeout called by Virginia leading 59-53. Projected 127, giving BamaG consternation (needs <=128 to win 6th, 129 would cause a tie) if Virginia ends up winning .

7:23: Virginia 55-47. Projected 125. Can The Gambler 2 smell first place (easily winning tiebreaker now by 12)? Samurai Jack would get 5th. BamaG would barely win the tiebreaker for 6th. Agnes Schweitzhoffer would win the Bonus (winning tiebreaker now by 9).

10:20: 10 point Virginia lead 53-43. Projected 129.

11:24: Virginia 50-41. No fast break points so neither team has needed to call a timeout to stall a run. Projected still 127. Virginia hitting 49% of their shots.

13:00: 3 straight 3’s combined by both teams. 45-41 Virginia. 127 projected points.

15:15 left (2nd half): Texas Tech’s Jarrett Culver finally hits a field goal (1/9). Virginia 42-33. 121 projected points.

Half: The teams did combine for 51 points in the last 13 minutes, which would project to 157 so maybe second half will be exciting.

Half: Virginia 32-29. Projected 122 points. Virginia has won last 61 games when leading at the half. Incredible.

3:57: Virginia 25-24. Projected 123. Who will win their first title? Oh, besides the pool, which team will win their first title?

6:00: 21-21. Going up, now 120 pts projected.

7:55: Picking up now. Virginia 19-16. Virginia had a 10 point lead. Now projected 116 pts.

12:38: Texas Tech just hit their 1st field goal. Virginia 9-6. Projected 82 pts now.

13:00: Just 7-3 Virginia. That’s just 57 points combined. Those who are rooting for low scoring are The Gambler 2 (<=137) and WhereUGoneSteveFisher (<=147) if Texas Tech wins and The Gambler 2 (<=137), WhereUGoneSteveFisher (<=147), and BamaG (<=128) if Virginia wins. For the Bonus, Netflower (<=129) if Texas Tech wins and Agnes Schweitzhoffer (<=134) if Virginia wins.

15:51 left (1st Half): Oy, vey, just 5 points (Texas Tech 3-2 on three free throws). That’s only about 48 points total combined at end of the game.

Michigan-Villanova Live!

Getting done with work here in Goleta and stopping somewhere to eat to hopefully watch the first half.  Philly Eagles Again (Champ), Slamjam51-3, and SacKings4Ever have already clinched money spots.  For pride, 42 have picked #1E-Villanova to win and two have picked Michigan.  Those two are STORMY Fever-Catch It! and We Fam!, coincidentally, both with explanation marks at the end of their nickname.  Both need the Wolverines to win to finish in the money.  Larzby also needs Michigan to win to hold on to a money spot.  Billiam, ChasCroix-1, and BamaG 2 need the Wildcats to win to finish in the money.  Either way, there is a tie for 5th and the total points in final tiebreaker will come into play.  Bonus already won by SamerTime.  So here we go…

1st, 15:30: Michigan coach “Weave 2 Poppy”?  MI 9-6.  Watching on the iPad from the Outpost restaurant. Hotel doesn’t have TBS so watching Michigan TeamCast on TNT.

11:00: MI 21-14. Mich has more 3s than Vil (2-1).

6:00: Vil hits 2nd three (both teams now 2/10), takes lead 23-21. Vil kept in game with 4 offensive rebounds (0 for MI).

Half: Vil ends half on 23-7 run, hitting 3 of their last 4 threes. Estimated total points is 130.

2nd 18:03: Vil on 7-0 run after spotting Michigan early basket. 44-30.

14:00: VIL another three, up 51-33. Estimated 129 pts.

11:58: Michigan battling, down 53-38. Estimated 130 pts. ChasCroix-1 would win 5th place tiebreaker and VIL win.

7:55: VIL nails another three, pushing lead back to 15 (59-44).  And another three, up by 18 (62-44). Both by Donte DiVincenzo. Estimate 133 pts. ChasCroix-1 would finish 6th (and BamaG 2 5th) if total points is 135+ 136+.

6:52: Michigan TeamCast complaining about Donte’s carrying-over and not getting called on it.  Donte human missing 2 free throws but makes 2 now.

5:37: Billiam, ChasCroix-1, and BamaG 2 are starting to count the money.  19 point lead (69-50).

4:23: Now Michigan TeamCast complaining about soft fouls on Wagner.  On the last one, Wagner didn’t even touch the guy and got his 4th foul.  71-52.

3:48: Another 3, Villanova up by 22 (74-52). Scoring up, now estimate 139 which would give BamaG 2 5th place.

2:00: Total points hit 137 (79-58), gives BamaG 2 5th place.  ChasCroix-1 will finish 6th.

10.7 sec: Benches empty.  Villanova 79-62.

FINAL: Villanova 79, Michigan 62 (141 total points). VIL hit 10/27 3s (9/18 after starting 1/9).  VIL 12-5 offensive rebounds.  All 6 wins by double-figures.  Slamjam51-3 finishes 2nd, SacKings4Ever 3rd, and Billiam 4th.  Congrats to all 7 winners!

Gonzaga v UNC- Live Pool Updates

If you’re watching on the March Madness App, you get to see some behind the scenes coverage and pre-recorded segments as they wait to go live after commercials.

Game over!  UNC 71-65.  Bigtenfan thankful UNC only made 1 of 2 as 136 still gives the $40 bonus.  If he made both, Bamag2 would’ve gotten it.

All but over besides total points in final.  135 now.  Bigtenfan would win… 7 seconds left but 2 free throws to UNC.

UNC 68-65 21.9 seconds left.  Jump shot gives UNC a 3-pt lead after Zags again fail to get a defensive rebound (tied up, possession UNC).  134 pt projection.

UNC 66-65 1:25 left. Both teams have missed 19 free throws.  That same corner has played havoc with Gonzaga with a couple slips and a sprained ankle.  136 pt projection would give Bigtenfan bonus.

UNC 62-60 3:08 left.  Dboyz17, MarchMindlessness, and Alternative Picks are guaranteed money but they would love to get the maximum placement with UNC winning. 132 pt projection would give ChasCroix1 (if Zags win) or Harbaugh’s Khakis (if UNC wins) bonus.

UNC 59-57 5:03 left.  Zags last 9 pts off free throws before jumper at 6:07 first basket in over 8:27 then a three-point banking in.  Zag’s Collins fouls out going for defensive rebound.  133 pt projection SlumDawg would win bonus.

UNC 54-52 7:21 left.  Zags over 7 minutes without a basket (and not doing that well from free throw line).  130 pts would give FV LOCALS bonus.

UNC 52-50 8:02 left.  This tourney will be known for endlessly long delays with refs going to monitors too long.  Ticky tack flagrant 1 against Gonzaga’s Karnowski even though he got fouled.

50-50 9 minutes left.  Most of the last points via free throws thus far.  129 pts give And Mich. Still Sucks bonus.

UNC 47-46 10:50 left.  Boy, lots of missed shots (some badly), turnovers, and fouls (16 this half already).  Gonzaga already in Bonus and UNC in the 1-and-1.  Injured Joel Berry leading UNC. 128 projected pts would give Zippy bonus.

Zags 41-40, 15:53 minutes left.  Interesting seeing the Zags road uniforms for the first time (“ZAGS”).  One of Zags big men Collins picked up 4th foul.  Projection of 137 pts would give Bamag2 Bonus.

UNC 40-35.  8-0 run thanks to a couple Zag turnovers and an airball.  UNC shooting better 3/5 this half.

Halftime:  Gonzaga 35, UNC 32.  UNC offensive rebounding keeping them in since they are shooting 30%.  67 points at half -> 134 at end.  That would give Hendo bonus.  But game is close so mid-major still in it.  Over under is 153.5 points which would put John Galt or 16 Chumps (Zags win)/EEChick1400 (UNC wins) in position for Bonus.

Final:  Duke wins 5th title, 68-63.  The 131 points means Nwspring and Patton split the $40 Bonus.  For Patton, small consolation after losing 4th with Wisconsin’s loss.  Big Luther is our 2nd two-time champion.  PRIDE OF TROY takes 2nd and Dance Time Boyz takes 3rd.  Wuk3 wins tiebreaker to take 4th over Will I Ever Win This (5th).  Flying Ace wins 6th.

2nd <2′:  Sorry, kids are home.  Duke (let conspiracy theories commence!) roars to 8 point lead 66-58.

2nd 6:41:  We’re tied!  54 all.

2nd 10′: Duke’s battled back without their Okafor, down 51-50.  The 101 points projects to 134.  No change in Bonus.

2nd: 11:43: Wis 51-45.  Duke’s Grayson Allen single-handedly keeping Duke in the game with his aggressiveness despite his size.

2nd 13:17: Badgers largest lead 48-39.  Duke in foul trouble but lots of time left.

2nd 15′:  Badgers 44-39.  The 83 points projects to 133.  Never Winning (Wis) or Dropping Dimes/Krispy Seconds (tie) (Duke) in good shape.

2nd 18′: Wisconsin jumps to 38-33 lead.  Just got home from work and watching on phone since kids took iPad.  Badgers missing free throws?  Decker airballs?

Halftime:  31-31.  First tie in title game since ’88.  The 62 points projects to 124 and that would give RN the Bonus if Wisconsin wins and TURNOVER PRONE if Duke wins.

UConn vs Kentucky – Live

Halftime: UConn built a 15-point lead at 30-15 giving Badzy a great chance for 1st but at the half, Kentucky had cut the deficit to 4 (35-31) bringing Bigtenfan2 back into the mix.  One of these 2 will win our 20th HWCI NCAA Pool.  As for the Bonus, the 66 combined projects to 132 which would give LuckyNumberSlevin the $40 bonus.

Start 2nd: Kentucky has trailed or been tied at the half in 5 of the 6 tourney games and we know how the other four ended up.  And a 3 puts the Wildcats within one.

18:05: Geez, another monitor review.  Boy, dunks are hard for UConn.

15:14:  UConn just up by 1 (37-36).  Slow going, projecting to 117 which would Coach K’s Recruiters the Bonus.

12:45:  UConn dunk blocked again!  Kentucky needs to hit their free throws (6 of 13 while UConn is perfect 6-6). UConn 41-37.

10:40: Kentucky’s first field goal in almost 5 minutes, still trail 48-42 (after made free throw).  The 90 combined points is about 120 at end of game which would give Pinkocean the Bonus (and her 2nd bonus).

9:00: UConn’s Boatright’s injured.  Timeout. UConn leads 48-45.  Still on track for 120 pts.

7:54: Since I harped on their free throwing, Kentucky has hit 6 of 7 to pull within 1 (48-47).

6:00:  Back to back 3’s put UConn back up by five 54-49.  Kentucky still has never led.

3:47: Kentucky had hit 7 of 8 free throws but have now missed 2 in a row (including the front end of a 1-on-1).  They get 1 more trailing 56-52 (and he missed).  Amazingly, still projecting to 120 pts.

1:49: UConn slowing things down, Kentucky missing shots.  Now a key offensive rebound as the Huskies try to hold a 58-52 lead.  Now we’re projecting to 115 pts which would give Elizabeth the Bonus.

25.1: UConn still hasn’t missed a free throw today (10/10) leading 60-54.

0.0: Boy that last 25 seconds was a blur, before you knew it the game was over as Kentucky, for once, couldn’t get a late 3 to fall.  UConn are your champions and Karen F (Badzy) is our HWCI NCAA Pool champion!  She is our 5th female champion and first since 2010.  The 60-54 victory means 114 is our total points in final.  So Elizabeth W (Elizabeth) wins the Bonus!  So who wins 6th?

0.0: With Badzy out of the way and the low total points total, Rick F (Fabio) easily won the tiebreaker to take 6th, leaving Paul T (The Downtown Fiction) and Don M (Wooden-Soldier) penniless.  Benjamin D (Bigtenfan2), Randy E (Hawkeye), Ken B (Beyond Elite 8), and Eric F (ShivaBlast) each dropped a spot to claim 2nd/3rd/4th/5th.

My wife and Rick Pitino jumped when they shot off the streamers!

LOU wins 82-76 (158 pts)!  BamaG wins the Bonus, Flying Ace 4th, Poolraider 5th, and Lastminute 6th.  Cliff Paul can curse the Wolverine poise. Pitino is 1st to win championships with 2 different teams.  LOU was supposed to be a force last year as well but late injuries before the tourney doomed their chances.

LOU 82-76 2 sec:  Good thing the tiebreaker is already decided otherwise these last few free throws could’ve changed things.

LOU 78-74 29.8:  Is there a 4-point shot I don’t know about?  Why is Michigan taking their time to foul?

LOU 78-74 1:20: Why is LOU panicking?  They had complete control. 152 pts thus far.  Unless MI makes a comeback, BamaG will win the Bonus, Flying Ace 4th, Poolraider 5th, and Lastminute 6th.

LOU 76-66 3:20: Hancock again!  MI may have the most 3’s from 25+ feet, but Hancock just drills 3 after 3.

LOU 71-64 4:54: Not looking good for Cliff Paul.  BamaG can taste the Bonus.

LOU 67-64 5:22: Both teams just had FGC-like alley oops.  What a good game so far.

LOU 65-61 7:00: Both teams shooting 54%, what a difference from when Butler was in the Finals.

LOU 58-56 10:00: Projecting to 152 pts now.

LOU 54-49 12:20: More ticky tack fouls against LOU.  And why can you throw the ball in the back court from the front court?

MI 46-43 15:57:  Projecting to 142 pts. Lastminute still would be out of the money if MI wins.  Krispy Kremer wins Bonus if LOU wins, husband-wife-dad of Belucky2, SpAva and The Fabone XIX would share Bonus ($13.33 each) if MI wins.

MI 46-42: After an early LOU 3 to put them up by 2, MI is back up by 4.  Frantic pace so far.

MI 38-37 halftime:  Another ticky-tack foul vs Louisville and the Wolverines barely lead at the half.  If it’s like the Super Bowl, it may be an hour before the 2nd half starts… more importantly, the 75 points projects into 150 total points which if LOU wins, gives Poolraider 4th, Flying Ace 5th, and Lastminute 6th and BamaG the Bonus.  If Michigan wins, Lastminute would be eliminated and Pride of Troy would win the Bonus.

LOU 37-36:  Why do you desert and leave Hancock open?  4 straight 3’s.  And a FGC-like dunk and the Cards have erased a 12-pt lead to lead by 1!

MI 36-32: 3 consecutive 3’s by Hancock and the game is close again.  Much earlier than their game vs Wichita St.

Seriously, it’s been over six minutes and the score hasn’t changed.  Not because of play, but because of awfully long commercials (one long break, a short play, and timeout again!)… no wonder network TV is going down the drain.

MI 33-21 3:51 1st: Once again, Louisville is off to a very slow start as Michigan is not only making shots but grabbing rebounds on shots they’ve missed.  But we know all too well not to count the Cardinals out.
