CERRITOS, CA (smt)- The other three teams from Ohio, including #13MW-Ohio, won and joined #2E-Ohio St. in the Sweet 16. So while California quickly went 0-4, Ohio got all four of its teams in. More amazing is that all 3 teams were lower-seeded teams. Joining Ohio, who is the lowest seeded team in the Sweet 16 since 2006, were #6E-Cincy and #10S-Xavier (who knocked off #15S-Lehigh). Both "NC"s made it as well as #11MW-NC State upset #3MW-Georgetown and #1MW-UNC rolled into the Sweet 16, albeit with Kendall Marshall rolling over his wrist hurting the Tar Heels chances. #1W-Michigan St and #2MW-Kansas survived scares while #7W-Florida quickly dashed #15W-Norfolk St's hopes in a 34-point rout.
In the pool, seven managed to get 5 of 8 correct but Larzby (85 pts) still is atop the standings for the fourth straight day, a point ahead of Bigtenfan and two points ahead of The Mighty Mobelfakta. Once again, Larzby lost the lead mid-way through but got the last game correct to jump back into first. Three picked Ohio while 9 picked Xavier. AsherPrancerVixen (132nd, 54) and Samurai Jack (130th-Tied, 56) both went 1-7 for the day, tying a record low by 3 other entries. Three went 12-4 for the round while two went 4-12. Thirty-three (33) still have all four Final Four teams intact but Bob Gnarly (92nd-T, 65) only has one left.
More importantly, we now know who is officially eliminated from the top six spots. Incredibly, 52 still have a chance for 1st place while an even 100 still have a chance to win money. Bigtenfan has the best chance to win first (18.2%) and money (70.3%). Four others have better than a 30% chance to win money. Shut Your Occupy Hole is tied for 42nd (72) but can't win money. On the flip side, Norm Chomsky and Unicorns are tied for 109th (62) but can still win money. B-Nazty is tied for 15th place (76) but can't win 1st. Of course, then there is Bizarro Larzby (yes, the same person in 1st) who has exactly a 1 in 32,768th chance to win money (92nd-T, 65). Legally Fabone (50th-T, 71) is still alive which means the streak is now 18 consecutive pools making it past the first cut (of course, the past three years, he's been eliminated on the next game day).

Tids 'n' Bits- None of the entries that went 8-0 yesterday got the first game, NC State, correct... the Midwest Region has the top two seeds plus #11-NC State and #13-Ohio... in 2009, just 8 of 114 entries were eliminated leaving 106 alive (6 more than this year)... injuries to Syracuse and UNC are making Kentucky's path a little easier... Craft-o-Matic (129th, 57) was the only one to pick Purdue and nearly nailed it... later this week, who is in the running of the Bonus Prize and how will we divvy up $1,330?...

Still alive, yes, I've lowered expectations...
