Wednesday, March 19, 2008 Issue # 2.0.2 "Twenty-One Losses" [Home | Blog | Updates ]
CERRITOS, CA (smt)- The #64-Mount Saint Mary's Mountaineers (or The Mount (huh?)) handed in-state patsy #65-Coppin St. its 21st loss of the season, 69-60, to earn the #16E seed and right to get trounced by #1E-UNC on Friday. The ever-popular (sarcasm) Opening Round game at least allows a team to earn an official, bona-fide NCAA tournament victory.
For us local folks, KDOC-TV (Ch. 56) will televise the Cal State Fullerton match since it conflicts with UCLA's match on CBS. Unfortunately, I'll be in Austin, but it's a nice gesture. And Don M. (WOODEN_SOLDIER) has alerted us that a new site, Joost, will be testing P2P streaming of the March Madness on Demand (they admit it will be very buggy) which could increase bandwidth and help view the content. We shall see.
Actually having the website up early has helped, as we have 40 entries so far, a record for this point in time. The last two years we have had admin travel issues and hard drive failures which caused the site to not go up til Monday (not that it stopped us from setting new entry records). This year, we were actually down for about 4-5 months as we lost our host server so we had to look for a home. So we went from almost free hosting to having to pay lots of money for hosting. We finally found one in late February, wrote the check, and here we are.
Since I'll be in Austin for the rest of the week (we leave early this morning), I'll be slow to respond to emails but should be at the hotel late Wednesday and Thursday morning. You can always check our Blog for the latest info. I am using the blog rather than sending out mass emails for any late breaking news that can't wait until the next update.
You can mail your entry fee (email me for snail mail) or give your $10 (per entry) to someone who will give the money to David or Scott. We are accepting PayPal (check or PayPal funds only) to "hwci(at)hotmail.com" or credit card PayPal payments to "smt0222(at)yahoo.com" (but the entry fee is $10.61 (61 cents in PayPal fees... damn them!). Please let us know if you are mailing a check.
Enter online now! You can also fax your entry to me at (720) 368-0816 or email us for a snail mail address (postmarked by Thursday AM). Make arrangements (such as PayPal) to send in your $10 entry fee(s) by March 20th. Complete rules and daily pool information can be found on the official site: http://www.HWCI.com/ncaa and on our blog at http://www.HWCI.com/wordpress.
