Tuesday, March 18, 2003 Issue # 2.0.2 "UNC-Asheville closer to .500" [ Home | Updates ]
CERRITOS, CA (smt)- #65-UNC-Asheville (15-16) continued their amazing run to .500 by beating a poor free-throw shooting (missed 17 of 31) #64-Texas Southern team in overtime to advance to play #1S-Texas in the Opening Game. Billions of pool entries are in jeopardy when the NCAA committee screwed up by placing #12S-BYU in a bracket that would play their Elite 8 game on a Sunday. BYU has a policy of not playing on Sundays which would mean a "pod" switch of BYU and the MW corresponding "pods". Of course, that would mean BYU would have to beat #5S-UConn and #4S-Stanford/#13S-San Diego. Very, very unlikely. But then again, this is March Madness. The NCAA did announce today that any war in Iraq would not affect the tournament.
Right now, nothing changes in the pool with the BYU situation. If BYU does advance to the Sweet 16, we'll take a look at all the entries and see who this will affect. Post any thoughts you might have on our discussion board.
We've had some comments that four winning spots is not enough (with 80 entries last year). So a very likely possibility is "bonus wins" such as picking the highest double-digit seed to advance to the Sweet 16 or via your existing picks picking the conference with the most wins in the tourney. All this will be finalized this weekend when we have a hard number of entries.
Which brings us to the reminder to remember to pay your entry fees. Make arrangements (such as PayPal) to send in your $10 entry fee(s) by Friday, March 21st. Complete rules and daily pool information can be found on the official site: http://www.HWCI.com/ncaa. Remember, the entry deadline is 9 am PST Thursday.
