     MICHIGAN ST. OVERCLASSES FLORIDA FOR 2ND NCAA TITLE, 89-76
         The Fabone VI wins money for third straight year

     LA MIRADA, CA (smt)-  The seniors of #1MW-Michigan St. shook
off the freshmen and sophomores of #5E-Florida, 89-76, in the RCA
Dome in Indianapolis.  The Spartans had a scare when star guard
Martin Cleaves went down with a twisted ankle with 16:18 left and
up by six.  Michigan St. held on and built an 8-point lead when
Cleaves came back igniting the Spartan's morale and energy as they
outscored the Gators 24-12 to build an insurmountable 20-point lead.
Cleaves did not do much after the injury but Florida could not
capitalize despite getting some good inside shots with their big men.
The Spartans win their 2nd NCAA title (the first in 1979 with Magic
Johnson) in their last real hope as the team will rebuild next year.
Florida, on the other hand, will be a formidable force as their 
youngsters build on this experience.

     Michigan St.'s win sent JACKASS (10th, 104) and PATTO (18th, 96)
out of the money picture and put THE FABONE VI (3rd, 113) and CRAIGS99 
(4th, 112) in.  THE MIGHTY MOBELFAKTA (2nd, 114) moved up to 2nd Place
as the pool champion MORALES' MOUNDS (1st, 122) looked on.  Despite a
HWCI record thirteen people picking the correct champion, this was the
lowest scoring pool ever (94.7 pts per entry (first time average under
100.0)).  Scott T becomes the first person to win money in three
straight pools (four, if you include the 1998 HWCI World Cup Pool)
after going winless in the first three.  THE MIGHTY MOBELFAKTA returns
to the money spot for the second time (2nd in 1995), becoming the 
fifth 2-time winner.  MORALES' MOUNDS wins in his third try while 
CRAIGS99 wins on his first try.  MORALES' MOUNDS also became the first 
person to win or tie for points in each round as well as the first 
person to lead or tie after each round (tied after the first round and 
sole possession of first after that).  Scott T's money spot extends the 
streak to three of people who have entered twice and won something 
(prior to that it was 0 for 5).

                        Craigs99 Score: 112 (place 4 winner $ 30)

     In tiebreakers, the total points for the game was 165 which was
guessed correctly by MAX POWER (99) who took 11th over BINGO41 and
JAYBIAN IV.  Six other meaningless tiebreakers decided who would 
take 15th, 17th, 19th, 26th, 29th, and 31st.  145 points was the 
most popular choice, chosen by six entries.
