1995 National Championship Recap
Even though the 1995 championship game was not a rematch of any kind, it certainly had two teams that were accustomed to playing for the national title. The UCLA Bruins were making their 15th trip to the Final Four and looking for their 11th title, while the Arkansas Razorbacks were making their fifth trip to the Final Four and looking for back-to-back crowns. Their title search proved elusive, as UCLA captured an 89-78 victory before 38,540 spectators at the Kingdome in Seattle, Washington.
UCLA took the title in style as senior forward Ed O'Bannon (30 points), the
championship's most outstanding player, and freshman Toby Bailey combined to
scored 56 points to lead the Bruins to the victory despite playing without
senior point guard Tyus Edney. The Bruins' playmaker logged only three minutes
of playing time before being removed with an injured hand.
UCLA took a 40-39 lead with 10 seconds remaining in the first half and never
relinquished it, as the Bruins held off a second half charge for the win.
Clint McDaniel led Arkansas with 16 points all of which came in the first half
of play.
